Bora Bora has emerged as one of the biggest and most popular tourist destinations in the world. Every year a large number of tourists travel to Bora Bora from all over the world. The lagoon that surrounds Bora Bora is probably its biggest attraction. The lagoon is enclosed by coral reef from all sides. It is a perfect place for the visitors to enjoy a host of recreational activities. Here you can spend your time boating around the lagoon, feeding the sharks, enjoying a jet skiing experience and scuba diving. There are services that provide you with expert divers to help you dive and swim in the lagoon.  The lagoon also offers a wide range of water animals. You can see a lot of dolphins, turtles as well as a large number of other water animals. Also if you do not know how to swim or dive and do not want to start now, you can get into an Aquascope which basically is a semi-submersible watercraft that lets you enjoy the depth of the lagoon without diving in it.

The ancient shrines in Bora Bora are some of the other places worth visiting. The shrines are named as Marae Temples. These are open air shrines and are usually related to the mystical past of the island.  The Marae Temples were used by the inhabitants of Bora Bora in ancient times to offer ritual foods to their Gods. Also the inhabitants conducted their weddings and other celebratory ceremonies in these temples. It was also the place where they enthroned their king. One of the most important Marae temples in the area is the Marae Fare-Opu.

There are some other places that have to be visited while on a vacation to Bora Bora. Some of them include the Cooks Bay and the Tetiaroa Atoll. There also is a Bird Sanctuary that hosts a large variety of exotic sea birds. Also there are the archeological sites at Huahine. Also there are clubs that offer a chance to see the traditional mystic dance shows. You can watch performances of Otea, which basically is a war dance, Pao’a, considred to be a sensual dance, as well as Aparima.
